This very cute Chocolate Christmas Trees is easy to make and a perfect treat to get the kids in the kitchen to work on. I made this one with my 6 and 4 year old. If you were to make it on your own, you can be more precise with the layer shape and size, but don’t expect that when making it with the kids! My little ones were very proud of their Christmas Tree when they brought it to the table to share.

This recipe was originally posted in Nov 2010. I am having an “online holiday” this coming week, so thought I would share it again as part of Christmas In July 2011 series. As I am going for an eco-friendly theme this year, we will be making a series of these Chocolate Christmas Trees as our edible table decorations for Christmas day.

Chocolate Christmas Trees Recipe

Ingredients:
• 300 grams chocolate (we used Cadbury Dairy Milk)
• 1 1/2 cups rice bubble
• 3/4 cup desiccated coconut
• icing sugar for dusting

Chocolate Christmas Trees Method:
• Break the chocolate into small pieces and place in a medium-sized microwave safe bowl (you add the other ingredients to it, so it needs to be large enough to fit all ingredients and to able to stir it easily.)
• Melt chocolate on high for about 90 seconds. Check and stir. If chocolate needs more melting, do so for 15 second bursts.
• Add coconut and rice bubbles to the melted chocolate and combine well.
• One trays lined with baking paper, spoon chocolate mixture into the shape of crosses. You could pipe them if you prefer.
• Make six crosses, each one being slightly smaller than the other. Leave a couple of tablespoons of mixture to the side. This will act as the glue to build the tree.
• Place crosses in the fridge to set for 30 minutes.
• Place the largest cross onto a serving plate. Using the left over mixture (melt in microwave for 15 seconds if it has hardened) place a dob into the middle of the bottom layer and press the next layer gently on top of this. Continue until you have layered all 6 crosses.
• Place into fridge again for 30 minutes.
• Prior to serving dust with icing sugar.

Crunchy Christmas chocolate tree are a unique Christmas sweets. These trees have an edible crispy outer shell, a delicious chocolate truffle filling colorful and beautiful decorations.
Yield: 12 trees

Ingredients Christmas chocolate tree:
• 1 / 2 cup, or about 3.5 oz chopped chocolate
• 1 / 3 cup cream
• 12 tip top ice cream cones
• 12 ounces green candy coating
• 12 small yellow candies (such as mini M & Ms)
• 1 / 2 cup colored sprinkles

Preparation Christmas Chocolate Tree

1st Place the chopped chocolate in a small heat-safe bowl. The cream in a small saucepan over medium heat and bring it to a simmer, but do not boil.

Second Christmas Chocolate Tree - Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate and whisk gently until the chocolate melts and mixture is smooth and homogeneous. This is your “ganache”. Press plastic wrap directly on some of the ganache and place set in the refrigerator until it reaches the consistency of peanut butter, about 45 minutes.

Third Christmas Chocolate Tree - Once your ganache one spoonable texture (but not too tightly, or it will be difficult, with the work) is to remove you from the refrigerator and place it into a piping bag with a 1/2 inch round tip attached, or if you don ‘t have to cut them into a large plastic bag with a 1/2 inch hole in the corner.

4th Christmas Chocolate Tree - With a sharp knife with a serrated edge, the ice cream cones about 2.5 cm from the bottom cut off, making little mini-journal about 2 inches long.

5th Insert the tip of the pastry bag in a cone and press until it is filled with ganache. Place your filled chocolate “tree” standing on a lined baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and repeat until all the cones are filled with ganache. Refrigerate the tray until the ganache is very firm, about 45 minutes more.

6th Christmas Chocolate Tree - Once the ganache is firm, the green candy coating melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Drop one of the trees in the molten layer and press down until it is completely covered. Lift it out of the coating with a fork, then tap the fork against the edge of the Sun Bowl excess coating drips.

7th Christmas Chocolate Tree - Place the tree upright on the baking sheet, then you knock the tines of the fork against the wet coating to make spring outward and give the coat texture like leaves from trees. While the coating is still wet, press a small yellow candies represent a star, colored sprinkles and sprinkle all around the tree to represent light. Repeat until all the trees dipped and decorated.

8th Allow to dry completely at room temperature candy coating or in the refrigerator. Crunchy Christmas Chocolate Tree should be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator and take approximately 2 weeks. For best flavor and texture, they bring to room temperature before serving.

Heart Shaped Christmas Tree Chocolate Cookies (Chocolate Cutout Cookies)

INGREDIENTS:
• ¾ bar (170g) unsalted butter (softened)
• 1 cup golden caster sugar
• 2 small eggs
• 2 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 cups plain flour
• ⅓ cup cocoa powder
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ¼ tsp fine salt
• designer icing and ribbons for decorating

Christmas Tree Chocolate Method:
In a large bowl combine butter and sugar and cream until fluffy. Then add egg, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder and gradually flour, mixing dough all the time with hand mixer or a spoon. Create ball from the dough and leave it in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

Christmas Tree Chocolate - Then preheat oven to 180°C (356°F).
Take out part of the dough from the fridge and roll it out on lightly floured surface to about ½ cm thick. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and place on baking trays lined with Teflon sheet or baking paper. Repeat the same with the rest of the dough. If it is too soft make ball from it again and place in the fridge for a while. Bake cookies for about 10-12 minutes. Let them cool down before decorating with icing.

To make Christmas Tree Chocolate cookies cut out wholes, before baking cookies, so you can put ribbon through it.
After applying icing, leave them to dry for 24 hours before decorating with ribbons.
