Christmas Candies

We all have seen this particular shape of seasonal candy that looks like a cane with red stripes during Christmas season. At that time became very popular to celebrate decorating trees and many of the items used to do so were food items which included Christmas candy and cookies. It was then that the first candy cane appeared but not with the shape we all nowadays. It was all but a straight white cane with no stripes at all.

This particular gift gained great popularity and became a tradition and giving candy canes on Christmas spread through Europe. But, how did the candy canes come to America? Not everybody realizes the rich history that a candy brings to our Christmas holiday. It is a lot more than just a decoration or a sweet tasting candy.

Christmas Candy Canes

Have you ever wondered why the candy cane is red and white and how it became a Christmas favorite? Would you believe that the candy cane was actually invented as a tool to keep children quiet? Candy canes quickly became a tradition – at first mostly reserved for Christmas Candy themed religious ceremonies, but they eventually found their way amongst the other sweets on the family Christmas tree.

For many years, Christmas candy canes were all white. At first, Bob painted his candy canes for family and friends every year by hand. The white color reminds us that Jesus lived a pure, clean life. The red stripe represents the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.
